Becoming A Better Writer?
Becoming A Better Writer?
All over the internet,there are various articles telling amateur writers like me how to be a better writer, how to write good stories or good books. Guidelines to follow,steps and techniques. All over, on blogs, websites, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram etcetera. But the question is, is there a single way to become a good writer? Who is a perfect writer? Are you a good writer?
There is no such thing as a perfect writer, although it can be used in hyperbolic descriptions. There is no single way to be a good writer, there are numerous peculiar ways which you can discover yourself and with the help of others. But there is one thing I am sure of is there is a creative writer,who uses his/ her discretion in all things.
As an amateur writer ,I surf the internet a lot and I seek ways to be better. If you are an author, amateur or not ,you probably do that. But sometimes when seeking for this ways , we lose our originality and become less creative. Following same formats and steps, creating books that are just like a certain author's. We lose our creativity , a climax must be at the end, there must be a happy ending, the heroine has to fall in love with the hero. If all books were alike ,what would be the fun in it?
I do not opine that you should not seek for ways to be better, you totally should, because learning is a continuous process. But while learning ,make sure your peculiarity is intact.
Here are ways,which I think will help you in writing better;
- Always strive to remain unique
- Trusts your guts
- Listen to your characters. I know this sounds weird, but when you are well connected to your characters you can listen to them.
- Write at least almost everyday, this will help you keep in touch with your characters and remain green ,a day or week or weeks break could affect your writing style.
- Read a lot of books.
- Have a trusted beta reader.
- Have a plan.
- Understand your characters
- Research a lot about what you are writing.
- Always be open to listen to advise and enthusiastic to make adjustments that will make your work better but not hurt its peculiarities.
Good luck ;-)
